The Australian Magazine reveals the 50 restaurants in Australia that are hot hot hot right now.

It’s that time of year again when The Weekend Australian Magazine shines the spotlight on the country’s hottest restaurants, drawing our attention to Australia’s 50 hottest restaurants in 2019.

Curated by The Australian’s national restaurant critic, mister #couscousforcomment himself John Lethlean, the title is given for the hottest restaurant overall, plus awards for the hottest new restaurant, chef, value for money restaurant, hottest service, hottest wine program, hottest regional restaurant and hottest dish within each state.

So what lands a restaurant in the hottest 50 list? The underlying criteria includes excellence in food, service, wine and an ‘unmeasurable X factor’. This year’s list celebrates both new restaurants and those that have undergone drastic reinvention. It also serves to honour those restaurants not previously listed.

As for the Hottest Restaurant in Australia of 2019, this year it goes to Peter Gilmore’s Quay.

Lethlean also draws to our attention what’s trending on restaurant menus right now. Culinary delights including taramasalata, sardines, kohlrabi, squid, octopus, spanner crab, bottarga, raw tartares, along with flatbreads, naans, crumpets and waffles all make the list.

As for the Hottest New Restaurant, that goes Citta in Melbourne, while Hottest Service award goes to Brisbane’s very own Hellenika at the Calile. Adelaide’s Nido took out the title for Hottest Value, while the Hottest Regional Restaurant goes to Raes on Wategos in Byron Bay.
