One Of Australia’s Longest-Running Wine Festivals Is Going Ahead (And Going Digital)

Victoria’s Winery Walkabout festival is coming back this June, now taking place online with DJ Hot Dub Time Machine headlining the event.

We’re slowly beginning to see glimpses of life returning to normal. As states and territories across Australia begin to tentatively relax tough social distancing measures, Australians are starting to consider what life will look like post-COVID-19. Although we still have a long way to go, we’re optimistic that in the next few weeks and months we see the return of all the things we love.

And in great news for wine and music lovers, one of Australia’s longest-running wine festivals is coming back this winter (and going digital). The event in question is Victoria’s Winery Walkabout festival, set to kick off on Saturday, June 6th, and hosted by the Winemakers of Rutherglen.

In 2020, the festival (renamed as ‘Winery Walkabout the House‘) will look a little different as the organisers host the festival’s first-ever virtual event. Unlike most years (when the popular wine fest would attract thousands of vino lovers to the Rutherglen over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend), Australia’s wine community will unite online, making the festival more inclusive than ever.

The one-day-only festival will run from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday, June 6th with punters invited to buy a wine pack, rather than a ticket, for $85 (which includes the delivery of four bottles of Rutherglen wines to be enjoyed in the weeks ahead). Attendees are asked to gather their friends and join the event as a team/group, decide on a team theme to create costumes and set up a Zoom, Google Hangouts or Houseparty link to attend the virtual event together.

The event will be hosted by TV personality Tim Campbell, with teams invited to take part in a series of activities, games and challenges throughout the day. The best bit? At the end of the day, the team with the most points will be crowned the ‘Team of the Year’ and will receive a Rutherglen prize pack.

Aside from vino, Winery Walkabout the house will also host a line-up of independent Aussie musicians to perform exclusively for attendees. The event will be headlined by Hot Dub Time Machine as well as blues musician Ash Grunwald and folk-rock duo Pierce Brother (with more artists soon to be announced).

The Winery Walkabout the House event’s wine packs are available for purchase now for $85 with FREE delivery until May 15th. To find out more, click here.
