Rekodo Restaurant and Vinyl Bar

Blurring the lines between food, drink and music, Rekōdo promises a sensory-immersing dining experience that sounds as good as it tastes. 

Blending perfectly into level one at Barangaroo House between rooftop cocktail bar Smoke upstairs and relaxed House Bar on the ground floor, Rekōdo is set for a loud arrival onto Sydney’s dining scene this September 16th.  Fine-tuning signature Japanese flavours, expect familiar favourites like melt-in-your-mouth wagyu tataki with ponzu and onsen yolk, as well as underground hits like kimchi and fontina cheese taiyaki waffles.  Theatre and fun is seamlessly remixed into the menu, odanyaki noodles come served with red miso sesame eggplant which arrives at your table smoking over charcoal in a donabe clay pot. For dessert, mango oshizushi-style with coconut rice and pandan arrives cleverly disguised as tamago sushi for a mouthful of confused delight. Hot tip, say ‘omakase’ and the chefs will do all the choosing for you. The theatrical display continues with a collection of over 50 Japanese whiskies and 20-something sakés served tableside by the glass, a sake flight, or in cocktails. Signatures include a refreshing Tokyo Tipple made with brown sugar umeshu, tangerine and elderflower tonic. Inspired by the roaring phenomenon of listening bars that sprung up in 1950’s Japan, the food offering is soundtracked to a carefully curated mix by tastemaker artists. The playlist has been crafted with the mastery of Japan’s greatest Itamaes, showcasing vinyl DJs amplified through a Klipsch La Scala sound system.  Each month a guest vinyl Selector will curate the soundtrack - first up is Triple J Unearthed Winner and Aria nominated Meg Mac, followed by synth-pop extraordinaire Donny Benét in October, with more to be announced. Resident vinyl DJs spin from Thursday to Sunday, including the likes of Ayebatonye, Adi Toohey and Soul of Sydney DJs.
