Put Ze Pickle On Ze Burger And Bite
What a monstrosity! This was my initial reaction as I scrolled through the Ze Pickle Instagram account and spotted their Triple Loco burger. It’s a tower of food consisting of three hand pressed wagyu beef patties, three layers of their ‘triple jack cheeze’, triple maple smoked bacon, pulled pork, smoked jalapeños, iceberg lettuce, tomato, a special homemade sauce and ‘mum’s slaw’. All of this is stacked between two grilled cheese sandwiches.
How on earth is one meant to handle this monster let alone fit it in their mouth? Priced significantly higher ($36), and double the price of their regular burgers we have a hunch the Triple Loco is designed to feed double, if not triple the mouths.
For something a little more tame try the Pablo Escoburger ($16.50) made with wagyu beef, guacamole, cheese, smoked jalapeños, corn chips and zp sauce. For the full heart-attack-waiting-to-happen experience accept their suggestion to add pulled pork for an extra $4. It too is quite an overwhelming burger that certainly turns heads in the bar when delivered by the friendly waitstaff. As you can imagine, it’s full of flavour and the smoked jalapeños give it a good kick.
For something a LOT more tame try the chee-ze burger made with just one wagyu beef patty, iceberg lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, zp sauce and jack cheese ($15). It might not look as impressive as the first two burgers but it’s a lot more manageable. Be prepared to still get your hands messy this is one juicy burger.
Ze Pickle do more than just burgers. Their bar snacks include kumera fries and chicken wings. You can also try their fried cheese sticks (see video below). For dessert they have the Oreogazm ($14) – deep fried Oreos in doughnut batter with toffee caramel ice cream and liquid Nutella.
By now you’re probably right in guessing this place is not for the health conscious. The food at Ze Pickle definitely falls under the “sometimes” category on the food pyramid but is well worth trying even if it’s just for a drink.
With twelve taps to choose from Ze Pickle rotate their craft beers regularly showcasing some of the best breweries from around Australia and abroad. The indulgence continues from their burgers to their cocktail list with drinks including a Bacon Old Fashioned. They also have the Bubba Hubba Hubba – wild grape bubblegum vodka, fresh lime, lemonade and maraschino cherries.
Hailing from Brisbane all the way down to Foveaux St, Surry Hills, this is the first Ze Pickle to open in Sydney. Walk past on a Friday or Saturday night and this burger bar is heaving. With good drinks, good vibes and trophy burgers Ze Pickle is a great night out in Surry Hills.
