Escape to The William Inglis Hotel – a 5-star room, dinner for two and breakfast awaits
Nothing quite beats getting out of town and checking in to a five star hotel #robelife. What’s even better is not having to battle the traffic and enjoying a staycation right here in Sydney. The William Inglis Hotel is a new boutique, 5-star luxury equine themed hotel opened by AccorHotels under their luxury boutique brand MGallery by Sofitel, at the beginning of 2018 in Sydney’s South West. Set across eight levels, with 144 elegantly appointed rooms it is part of the new $140m precinct developed by thoroughbred horse sales company William Inglis & Son Ltd.
Located adjacent to Warwick Farm racecourse the entire hotel carries the equine theme throughout. A large horse statue stands at the entrance of the grand hotel. Each room is named after a champion racehorse including the Presidential Suite – known as the Black Caviar Suite. Original horse themed artworks hang on the walls, there’s even tasteful horse themed carpet in each room. A large two-storey bookcase runs from the hotel lobby into the restaurant housing a collection of artefacts, artworks and books from the past 150 years of Inglis’ operation and of the thoroughbred industry in Australia.
But you’re sure to love The William Inglis Hotel, even if you’re not a hippophile. Check in early and take advantage of the facilities. There is a stunning heated pool on the rooftop which overlooks the racetrack along with several cabanas to relax and a poolside bar so you can sip and swim at your leisure. A fully-equipped 24-hour gym and luxurious day spa can be found on the same level. Book in for a couples massage for some extra pampering.
Before dinner make your way to the whisky lounge positioned on the mezzanine level of the hotel, it’s named in honour of the year William Inglis and Son was founded. 1867 Lounge is a high-end whisky and wine bar, offering a selection of cocktails, whiskies, Champagne and bar snacks.
The only thing I didn’t love about The William Inglis Hotel was how many screens there were around the hotel streaming live sports. But i’m sure this is seen as a positive addition to most male hotel guests. Looking around the 1876 Lounge I can see women vying for their husband’s eye contact. To ensure their back is facing the screen take a seat by the modern fireplace in the centre of the bar and enjoy the live music performed on weekends.
Dinner is served in the paddock-to-plate style restaurant Newmarket Room and is popular amongst not only hotel guests but locals who live in the area. The a la carte menu features starters including fresh oysters, marinated kingfish, homemade potato gnocchi and a delicious slow braised pork belly served with charred apple & crackling. For mains there’s a fish of the day, risotto and braised lamb shank. You can order from a selection of steaks and sides. For dessert the chef’s bread and butter pudding will warm up any winters night and for the chocolate lovers you can’t go past the chocolate mousse cake with butter crème and candied strawberry.
When it comes to buffets I have little control so this comes as a warning- pace yourself. At The William Inglis Hotel you’ll start your morning with a selection of seasonal fruits, cereals and yoghurt. There’s also a DIY fresh juice station and selection of bread waiting to be toasted and lathered in Pepe Saya butter. That’s all before you even approach the hot food section where everything from scrambled eggs, lashes of bacon, gourmet sausages, mushrooms and more await. They even have a hot pot of congee with assorted condiments to try.
Rest easy in a giant king size bed and enjoy the peace and quite. You might still be in Sydney but you’ll feel as though you’re in the middle of nowhere. The William Inglis Hotel is situated on Governor Macquarie Drive, just 25 minutes from Sydney International Airport and 30km from the Sydney CBD. Just far enough to feel like you’ve had a short break but not too far away from home.
