The Fold is the beloved Dulwich Hill cafe slinging authentic Sri Lankan cuisine open day, and now, night.
While most of us are familiar with Indian cuisine, Sri Lankan might not be part of your repertoire. That’s exactly what The Fold is on a mission to do.
This local favourite is taking Sydney’s dining scene by storm, delivering a Sri Lankan-inspired cafe that aims to set a new standard for Sri Lankan cuisine in the city.
The Fold is headed up by the De Hoedt family. Travin De Hoedt (Head Pastry Chef at Franca Brasseries) and his fiancee Saaya Takahashi (pastry chef de parties at three-hatted restaurant, Sixpenny), and brother Jason De Hoedt (pastry chef at Franca Brasserie) bring the venue’s top-notch dessert menu to life.
Plus, their father Augi De Hoedt (Head Chef) brings over 35 year’s experience to the venue. He holds an impressive 10 years as Director of Culinary at Cinnamon Grand in Sri Lanka as well as a number of other top-notch venues. Plus, mum Dilki De Hoedt manages the front of the house, making this venue truly a family affair.
For the first time ever, The Fold is now open for dinner Thursday to Saturday (from 5 pm to 9.30 pm). So, what can you expect from their authentic Sri Lankan menu?
There’s bold flavours and authentic culinary techniques used in every dish. Don’t miss their Lumprais – presented in a clay pot, diners will get to unwrap a banana leaf to feast their eyes on a mix of tender curried meat, flavourful rice cooked in meat stock.
Start with smaller dishes of beef & potato pan rolls or tuna fish cakes before moving onto their larger plans such as Devilled Beef, Up Country Chicken Curry, and curries like red lentil, eggplant moji and more. And don’t miss their signature dishes like Appa Appa, String Hopper Feast and Savory Pol Roti.
As for desserts, don’t miss their spice-packed Sri Lankan Love Cake or their refreshing Fresh Coconut and Palm Sugar Pancakes.
