An old favourite becomes a new local.

In the heart of St Leonards, The Belroy Hotel emerges as the latest gem, blending classic charm with contemporary flair. Having opened its doors on November 22, this revamped establishment, born from the visionary mind of Garry McGrath, promises a unique pub experience that pays homage to its roots while embracing the modern palate.

Garry McGrath, the seasoned proprietor behind The Sussex Hotel at Barangaroo, has transformed the former Gilroy’s Hotel into a two-level haven, preserving its classic pub ambience downstairs while unveiling a stunning Terrace Bar & Bistro upstairs. The result? A local favourite with a fresh twist, offering not just a watering hole but a community hub.

Designed by the talented Emilie Delalande of Studio Etic, known for her work on Barangaroo House and the newly opened Martinez, The Belroy Hotel stands out with its contrasting yet harmonious spaces. The ground floor Sports Bar welcomes patrons warmly, serving up classic favourites and pouring tap beers from Sydney’s beloved breweries.

Ascend to the Terrace Bar & Bistro, a sunlit sanctuary where natural light floods through expansive windows and a breathtaking triangular skylight. The spacious, conservatory-style setting opens onto one of the North Shore’s largest wrap-around balconies, offering a perfect perch for enjoying summer spritzes and shareable plates elevated above the bustling streets.

The menu, a symphony of flavours curated for both levels, is a delightful complement to the diverse drink offerings, from gourmet burgers to butcher’s choice steaks and the signature rotisserie-roasted chicken. The Belroy Hotel brings a fun new twist to pub classics while also plating up comfort favourites with dishes like chicken and leek pie and lamb ragu pappardelle.

The drink selection is equally enticing, featuring signature cocktails like the Rhubi Spritz, Lemon Sherbet Spritz, and the refreshing Northside. The attention to detail extends to the inviting decor, characterised by on-trend terrazzo-topped tables, blue leather banquettes, and a touch of greenery that seamlessly blends the indoors with the outdoors.

Whether you’re seeking the familiar camaraderie of the Sports Bar or the sun-drenched allure of the Terrace Bar & Bistro, The Belroy Hotel beckons as the ultimate urban escape. A place where drinks, dining, and community converge across all seasons. As The Belroy Hotel opens its doors, it not only marks a new chapter for this locale but sets the stage for an unparalleled pub experience in St Leonards. Cheers to the beginnings of a new local legend!
