Now in its 67th year, the Sydney Film Festival is going ahead in 2020 with its first-ever digital program.
Sydney Film Festival is one of the cultural highlights of Sydney’s annual calendar. Bringing together emerging and leading filmmakers locally and abroad, the 10-day festival is renowned for sharing world premieres, compelling true stories, exciting documentaries and engaging feature flicks. But like all major events in 2020, the festival has had to make a few unexpected changes this year.
But as they say, the show must go on. And in the case of Sydney Film Festival, the show is moving online with news of the SFF’s first virtual edition and awards program. For the first time ever, film buffs will be able to buy tickets to a virtual version of the festival, enabling viewers to tune in from across Sydney and beyond to experience the program.
As usual, SFF will also be crowning the winnings of their annual series of film awards, including the Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Australian Documentary, the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, and Europe! Voices of Women in Film.
Sydney Film Festival’s Director Nashen Moodley is excited to share this new format with film lovers across our city, as he explains, ““This year’s special 67th Sydney Film Festival: Virtual Edition and Awards is all about bringing audiences across the nation together at a particularly challenging time in celebration of filmmakers and particularly the Australian film industry.”
“For almost 70 years, Sydney Film Festival has been the way we collectively explore the world and our times through the medium of film. It is two weeks in June when Sydney is as we know and love it – open, alive, inquisitive, inspired and connected – and we with it. SFF is when we came together to discover, discuss, explore; to be transformed and always entertained. So, from our homes the journey continues!”
The full program of Sydney Film Festival 2020 will be announced on May 27th 2020, with tickets going on sale the same day. To find out more, click here.
