Get ready to say ‘cheese’ at this free festival!
It’s time to mark your calendars: everyone’s favourite free cheese festival, Bon Fromage, is back and it’s promised to be bigger and better than ever. From June 1st to 3rd, you can satisfy your cheesing cravings and indulge in delectable French cheeses at the Cargo Hall in the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal. The festival will include a cheese market, food stalls, cheese masterclasses, entertainment, and a celebration of the renowned art-de-vivre à la française. Better yet, it’s happening at the same time as VIVID, so you can enjoy all the deliciousness of French cheese and take in the stunning view of the Opera House in the background.
Start your cheese-filled adventure at the piece de resistance of Bon Fromage – a massive cheese table with more than a ton of the finest French cheeses. Savour some of the finest cheeses, including velvety Camembert, Fourme d’Ambert, nutty Comté, and aromatic Langres. You can always come back to this spot, as refills will be available all day long to ensure everyone satisfies their cheese cravings.
This year’s festival will welcome more vendors as they show off their delicious creations and market stalls. Enjoy snack-style dishes like savoury Cob Loaf and irresistible Raclette melted cheese that will warm your soul. Indulge in Emmental-filled crepes, Triple Cream choux profiteroles, Comté croque-monsieurs, and fried Camembert skewers, each made with the smoothest cheese and quality ingredients. You also can’t miss browsing the famous ‘Stinky Market’ with all the bleu cheese one can only dream of. Stock up for winter with a wide selection of stinky cheese, from Bleu D’Auvergne to Beaufort.
For a more educational take on the festival, you can book into multiple masterclasses and discover the rich history behind each cheese for yourself. 2023 Bon Fromage ambassadors, Aurore Ghigo (Cheese on Wheels) and Victor Persinette Gautrez (K-Sein Fromagerie) will be sharing the story behind their craft and the process behind each cheese. Find out how to properly cut a hard cheese or learn which wine perfectly pairs the best with soft cheeses.
While the full program is yet to be revealed (it’s coming out later in the month), expect a delicious line-up of more cheesy food creations, live entertainment and French Disco style parties at night when the sun goes down. For more information, visit Bon Fromage’s website here.
