Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Bastille Festival.
Sydney’s most anticipated French street festival is back, bringing all the best things in life – namely food, wine and the arts – to the heart of the city. Taking over Circular Quay and now The Rocks from Thursday 12th July to Sunday 15th July 2018, at this year’s Bastille Festival you can expect a rich smorgasbord of all things French – food villages, wine gardens, live concerts, movie screens, a live cabaret show and more.
In an effort to navigate your way through this French-inspired wonderland, we’ve compiled a list of our top recommendations for this year’s event. How chic!
Did someone say Champagne bar? Live like the French do and be sure to pay a visit to Bastille Festival’s dedicated Champagne Bar during the four day event, running over 12, 13, 14 and 15th July 2018. The bar will be located at Customs House in the heart of The Rocks – mere metres from the scenic Harbour Bridge. Grab a glass of bubbles and take a seat on one of the retractable deck chairs with a blanket to keep you warm. You know where you’ll find us!
Electric Beer Garden
Champagne not your style? Head to the Electric Beer Garden during the Bastille Festival. Having experienced huge popularity in 2017, the team have decided to set up an even bigger space accompanied with electro music to keep your toes tapping. Beer lovers can expect big names such as Frenchie’s Bistro and Brewery, with a variety of craft brews available for purchase over the course of the 4 day event.
Another much-loved element returning to the festival this year is Sydney’s premiere outdoor cinema experience, Le Cinema, held on Tallawoladah Lawn (the big, grassy area in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art, in The Rocks). It’s not hard to imagine snuggling up in a warm blanket on a fresh winter’s night, seated in a soft deck chair, a warm glass of mulled wine in hand, as you enjoy a mix of classic French comedies, family-friendly films and cinematic works by some of the great French directors.
Wine and Cheese Feast
Fancy tasting the best French cheeses matched with the finest French wines? Of course you do. During this year’s celebration, punters can opt into a series of masterclass experiences at The Rocks, guiding you through the country’s top wine regions for the Gourmet and Gourmand – matched with delicious French cheeses. For $85pp, enjoy one long table full of French cheeses and freshly baked bread. Accompanying all this is seven french wines, all to be enjoyed over the course of a long and leisurely 2hr class.
