Drink, dine, dance and play at this celebration of culture in Surry Hills this September.
For two weeks from the 15th of September, some of the world’s best restaurants, bars, pubs, hotels, cinemas, galleries and karaoke rooms will be opening their doors to SURRY THRILLS, an all-new Sydney festival in one of the most vibrant parts of the city.
Uniting Downtown Surry Hills in a celebration of all the best hospitality businesses the precinct has to offer, the inaugural Surry Thrills Festival will highlight the depth and breadth of creativity in the area.
All participating venues are conveniently placed within a 2-block radius of each other and all within walking distance from the CBD.
Immerse yourself in the latest exhibitions at China Heights Gallery before kicking on to a quick Italo Disco Aperitivo at D.O.C Pizza. Enjoy a luxe lobster and champagne lunch at Nomad before checking out Ace Hotel Sydney’s new bar for a $12 negroni, then straight into a house party at Harry’s to dance what’s left of the night away.
Art is at the forefront of Harry’s huge program which includes a takeover from artist Rosie Deacon. Deacon’s psychedelic and otherworldly pieces will adorn Harry’s walls for a limited time giving people who wouldn’t usually get to see her work, a chance to admire it.
Across the road at Ace Hotel, art is also on the agenda. In homage to its history as one of Australia’s first ceramic kilns, Ace’s laneway cafe and gallery space, Good Chemistry, invites renowned and rising artisans and the public for a weekend of PLAY, with everyone welcome to participate in a growing body of clay work.
Foodies will enjoy a curated lineup of unmissable feasts including at Chin Chin where legend Executive Chef Benjamin Cooper will host a retrospective dinner feasting on his favourite dishes from the last ten years. Celebrate the arrival of new kid on the block, Gildas; brainchild of Lennox Hastie, who are opening their arms wide with complimentary Xoriguer Mahon Gin & Tonics!
Get ready for fun, festivity and the opportunity to try new things, from long table lunches to tightly limited collaborations between restaurants and chefs. From bar takeovers with gorgeous cocktails and natty wines to artist talks, exhibitions, comedy, live entertainment and more.
