Get Your Saigon Street Food Fix With An Elevated Modern Twist At This Smithfield Eatery

Drink, Eat, Sydney / 6 February 2023

Milk Tea Creme Brulée and a boozy 7/11 Pandan Slushie are two reasons to hustle on over to Western Sydney asap.

Pandemic baby, Saigon Hustle, has already weathered its fair share of storms since opening in 2020. Now, with lockdowns out of sight, a flavour-packed summer menu and a weekly DJ line-up in tow, the Vietnamese-inspired eatery is set to be the hottest restaurant in Smithfield this summer.

Behind the floor-to-ceiling glass frontage, a neon-lined space amalgamates all our favourite things about dining in South-East Asia. Paper lanterns and pink Cherry Blossom décor provide a visual feast before taking a glance at the meticulously designed 3-part menu.

By day, Saigon Hustle takes the shape of a cool and quirky coffee shop hangout, serving up caffeine-fuelled sips of pandan iced coffee, and traditional Vietnamese iced coffee – a perfect sweet finish to a signature lunch special of “BÒ NÉ” (Sizzling Beef Plate) – a satiating feed of beef bulgolgi, Mama Ngo’s handmade Chinese sausage and 2 fried eggs, topped with special house sauce on a hot sizzling plate with a toasted Vietnamese baguette.

The food is largely inspired by Vietnamese staples, reimagined with modern flavours and culinary fusions that will take you by surprise. Think signature dishes of; Bone marrow served with dried prawn floss, Vietnamese chimichurri and garlic crostini; Cheesy Rice Cakes tossed in laksa curry sauce garnished with sesame seeds and mozzarella cheese; and for dessert, a swoon-worthy Milk Tea Creme Brulées served with brown sugar pearls that’s every bit as delicious as it sounds.

To drink, a selection of tropical libations have been expertly divvied up into Sweet, Sour, and Fresh flavours to suit every palate, including; a perfect-for-summer Mandarin Caprioska featuring gin, mandarin, citrus and grapefruit soda; an east-meets-west 7/11 signature slushee that combines one of South East Asia’s most beloved flavours ‘Pandan’ within a 7/11 slurpee; and a tongue-puckering Saigon Sour comprised of Campari, gin, sweet vermouth, citrus, longan and egg white.
