A little piece of Mexico has opened up in the form of Playa Takeria

A small, colourful taqueria called Playa Takeria opened late last year on Darlinghurst Road where Fish Face used to reside. Mexican born owner Ricardo Acastillo said he knew the space would make the perfect Mexican diner when he first saw the venue. It’s an intimate space with bar stool seating in the window, perfect for people watching and margarita sipping.
Head Chef Alejandro Urbina is Ex Rojo Rocket and Grup Habita serving up authentic flavours of his home country.
Step inside past the large Frida Khalo mural and take a seat at one of the high tables. Start with some guac and chips but save room for the al pastor, marinated pork slow cooked daily before service.
Playa Takeria are involved in World Class Cocktail Week this year hosting a special party on Sunday 31st May. It’s free to attend so might be the perfect excuse to check out this new Mexican joint. Here are the details:

Frida’s Sunday Fiesta

Be immersed in an enigmatic Mexican experience in our first Frida Sunday Fiesta. Mexican Head Chef Alejandro Urbina will showcase Frida Kahlo’s favourite dishes that she spoiled her guests with at her extravagant parties in the Casa Azul in Mexico City. Mexican dishes will be matched with Don Julio Margaritas and Cocktails throughout the day.
