The team from Mov’in Bed and Mov’in Car are bringing a floating cinema to Darling Harbour this summer.
EDIT – January 2021: Good news, Sydney! Due to popular demand, Mov’in Boat’s summer season has been extended until the end of March 2021 (with rowboats also now available for those who’d like to go for a paddle in the harbour).
The year, there’s more reason than ever to head outdoors. We’ve seen restaurants and bars embrace alfresco dining and a bunch of outdoor cinema experiences hosted in laneways, rooftops, and leafy courtyards across the city. And now, we’ve found another out-of-the-box open-air cinema experience not to be missed.
Meet Mov’in Boat, the latest outdoor cinema experience coming to Sydney in December 2020. Hosted by the crew behind the outdoor movies in bed (Mov’in Bed) and the drive-in cinema (Mov’in Car), this latest event is coming to the Darling Harbour this summer.
Hosted on the sparkling Cockle Bay in Darling Harbour, Mov’in Boat will boast a 1,000 sqm floating platform with 40 row-boats for hire. Plus they’ll be 65 summer lounge beds and two floating bar experiences for attendees to enjoy. Back on shore, the full 4k 15-metre screen and 30 surround-sound speakers will be creating a truly immersive cinema experience.
There are four unique ways to enjoy Mov’in Boat this summer, including:
- Hire a rowboat: grab your crew and set up in a classic rowboat, kitted out with extra comfy tailored back seats. Each boat seats up to 4 people ($119.90 per boat) and you can even explore Darling Harbour before your flick starts too!
- Queen size day beds on floating pontoons: watch your film while reclining on one of the event’s outdoor summer beds, complete with a bedside table and room for up to 3 people. Plus, you can even get food delivered straight to your bed. This experience will set you back $99.90 for two or $109.90 for three people.
- Inside the Star VIP area: get the best seat in the house at The Star Sydney’s VIP Area. There are bedside tables, umbrellas, complimentary soft drinks, popcorn, and exclusive access to The Star’s VIP Bar (serving top-notch cocktails). Plus, you can pre-order delicious eats from their signature restaurants including Flying Fish, BLACK Bar and Grill, Sokyo, and Fat Noodle. This experience will cost $149.90 for two or $169.90 for three people.
- BYO Boat Area – Park and Watch: got your own boat? Head to Darling Harbour and enjoy the film from the comfort of your won ride ($49.90 per boat with as many people as you’d like).
Did we mention you can get food delivered to your bed or boat by jet ski? That’s right, score pizzas, beer-battered fish and chips, prawn buckets, and candy bar snacks on-demand.
As for the movie program, get ready for classics such as Dirty Dancing, Lion, Tenet, Interstellar, James Bond Goldfinger, Matrix, Casablanca, Elf and so much more.
