Misfits Redfern Bar and Dining is the sparkling new gem to hit the ranks of Redfern’s evolving social scene.

Fresh on the scene within the increasingly buzzing hive of Redfern, comes Misfits Redfern Bar and Dining. The eclectic and beloved cousin of Sydney pub dining W. Short Hotel Group (The Australian Heritage Hotel, The Glenmore Hotel).
Beyond a grand door, no signage in sight, head up a dark staircase. You’ll find a pink neon light and a portrait of 1960’s icon Twiggy. You have arrived at Misfits Redfern Bar and Dining. Here you’ll find a roaring mix of all tones green and gold, in settings of kick-back booths and private dining rooms. This lovechild of retro meets plantation, is an all-night-long hideaway destination.

Heading the kitchen at Misfits Redfern Bar and Dining, James Privett provides a grand extension of the modern gastropub. At Misfits Redfern, you’ll find an impressive collection of menu options taking twists on classic crowd favourites. Simple St Malo sourdough with caramelised onion ($5) is akin to French onion dip. Appealing to the comfort pub food crowd, Misfits Bar and Dining have a classic menu inclusion of an Angus beef burger ($18).

Misfits Redfern Bar and Dining sure knows how to upscale and reinvent the pub food paradigm. Escalating the flavour of the much beloved haloumi, you’ll find it pan fried and served with sweet gold raisins, marjoram spice, dukkah and a drizzle of champagne and honey glaze ($16). Once again taking the ordinary and turning it into a gastronomy experience to remember, charred octopus is paired with a Romanesco sauce with sprinkles of black bean, apple and succulents ($18,24). Yes, succulents!
This trend continues through to the range of cocktails at Misfits (I recommend the lychee martini). With an expansive selection of single malt whiskeys and local craft beers, the Misfits bar is already well and truely stocked. However, nothing holds a greater impact than the unusual inclusion of magnum sized bottles of wine.
As eclectic as its populace, Misfits Redfern Bar and Dining has much more hidden inside than described. To find out more about this gastronomical delight pay a visit yourself.
