Lunch at Saké Double Bay

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 5 August 2015

Located on street level under the Double Bay InterContinental, Saké is the unassuming answer to lunchtime chic in a vibrant setting.
With a menu designed by an award-winning culinary team, you can really do no wrong. The menu features a mix of seasonal vegetables, first-class Australian Wagyu beef, Alaskan King Crab and Jidori chicken. There’s an interactive sushi counter as well as a traditional open plan Japanese Robata grill. The atmosphere is elegant, chic and buzzing with relaxed diners.
Their lunch offerings are particularly good, with a three-course menu for $49 per person and two options to choose from. Option one includes kingfish jalapeno, popcorn shrimp and lamb chop robata. We chose the second option which started with wagyu carpaccio, followed by shortrib robata and a large serving of sushi mariawase. Both options are served with miso soup. Apart from making a choice at the beginning you don’t need to think too much about the menu making this a great lunchtime meeting spot. The food just keeps coming out and there is plenty of it!
For those a little more stringent with time and/or money, there is the bento box option, at $39 per person. This offers a selection of sashimi, steamed rice and salad along with a meat option. You can choose from the vegetable and prawn tempura, lamp chops or pan seared ocean trout. They also have a vegetarian option and kalamansi sorbet that comes out at the end for a refreshing dessert to finish your meal.
On this occasion my dining companion and I ordered one three-course lunch meal and a bento set and shared everything. It was a really enjoyable way of trying lots of different dishes.
The new Sake restaurant has several private dining rooms for those requiring a little privacy for a meeting or special celebratory meal.
If lunch is THE activity de jour, opt for the Chef’s New Classics menu, which, from $185 per person with matching sake, it looks like a great way to whittle away at an afternoon.
