The beloved Bondi bagel shop Lox In A Box is heading to the inner west.
Back in 2019, we covered the opening of Lox In A Box – a hole-in-the-wall takeaway spot slinging bagels and Jewish deli goods.
The venue took inspiration from traditional Jewish delis and kitchens, on a mission to elevate Sydney’s lox and bagel game to the next level. In fact, Lox In A Box prides itself in crafting the perfect lox (or thinly sliced cured salmon served on a bagel and loaded with cream cheese, capers, and all the trimmings).
And in 2021, we’re excited to report that owner Candy Berger will be bringing these iconic bagels to the heart of the inner west. Get ready: Lox In A Box is set to open a new location in Newtown (not far from Carriageworks) on Wilson Street in the next few months,.
In case you needed a refresher, Lox In A Box offers a curated offering of bagels and delicious deli treats. The signature Lox Bagel comes packed with pastrami cured lox, schmear, capers, onions, and tomato. But the menu here extends beyond just the traditional salmon-focused bagel.
You’ll also find LB’s Salad Bagel (with jalapeno schmear, vintage cheddar, grated carrot, cucumber, tomato, onion, beets, rocket), and the Hot Salt Beef Bagel (with corned beef, dill pickles, and yellow mustard) on the menu. Plus, all bagels come served with dill pickles and salty potato chips.
So, what can you expect at their upcoming Newtown outpost? The team will be taking over a former convenience store to create a cafe-style venue slinging their iconic bagels. Rather than going for a classic deli or general store, the team is offering a classic menu of convenient bites for locals to enjoy.
Expect everything from bagels and sides to traditional Jewish dishes such as braided bread, chopped liver, curated salmon, and more. There’s set to be pre-packaged meals, pantry staples, and even a coffee machine on-site too.
While a date isn’t set in stone, the Lox In A Box team hopes to launch their Newtown cafe by April 2021.
