Say Bonjour To Lavender Bay’s New French Quarters, Loulou

Eat, Sydney / 22 December 2021

A French bistro, boulangerie and traiteur have opened under one roof in Lavender Bay!

Fresh sourdough, sweet bakery goods, charcuterie and rotisserie chicken. These are a few of our favourite things! The lower north shore locals can get all of these things, plus ready-to-go meals and French bistro classics under one roof from this month. Introducing Loulou, the latest venture from Etymon Projects.

The venue design and interiors have been executed by H&E Architects, the talent behind Chiswick Woollahra and Barangaroo House. With a combination of traditional French styling and contemporary detailing, the space is warm and opulent. Think brass accents, a curved inset entry and mosaic marble floors. Pull up a seat at the bar or choose from banquette, loose or long share tables.

The team is no joke with Sebastien Lutaud as Culinary Director (Solotel & Merivale), Lucas Christofle as French-born General Manager (Half Acre Melbourne & BlackBottle Darlinghurst), Colin Tam as Bar Manager (Charlie Parker’s & Little Felix) and Shun Eto as Sommelier (Icebergs Dining Room 7 Bar & Berowra Waters Inn).
Billy Hannigan is Head Chef (Bistro Guillaume and The Ledbury London) executing French bistro classics in a more approachable way. For breakfast, you’ll be able to sip on ST. ALi Coffee accompanied by a Crab Soufflé Omelet. For lunch and dinner, delicacies like French Onion Soup with a housemade pastry, Steak Tartare, Veal Tongue & Frites are served with a side of Champagne.
Follow your nose to the Boulangerie next door where you’ll find fresh artisanal baguettes, croissants and batards. Bendon Woodward is the lead baker (Chouquette Boulangerie, Bread Ahead Bakery London) ensuring nothing is ever more than a few hours old. The last bake is at 5pm which means you can swing by after work to grab the essentials.
Within the same space, Loulou’s Traiteur will offer house-made produce and meals to take home created by French-born butcher Cyprien Picard. Think Toulouse Sausage, Country Terrine, Chicken Liver Parfait, Family Quiches, Rotisserie Chickens, as well as sauces and condiments. This can all be enjoyed from the sun-drenched terrace or take a wander to Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden (BYO picnic rug).

The Boulangerie is open 7 days from 7am until early evening while the Bistro is open Monday – Sunday from 12pm (Christmas hours may differ).
