Arrive to The Wanderer in Surry Hills and you’re immediately met with a set of instructions, itemised on an a-board. The first command, quite ominously states, ‘do not enter until instructed!’. What could we be in for? Where will this unknowing road take us? Rest assured, all will be revealed at The Lock In: an immersive cocktail experience situated in the heart of the inner-city.
Let us make something clear, this is no escape room. The Curious Cartel, the crew behind this latest experience to land in Sydney, operate as a team of producers and managers in television and pop-up events. With over a decade of experience under their belts, they are now found marrying their love of immersive theatre and great cocktails with their passion for creating unique experiences.
At The Lock In, it’s all about escaping reality for 90 minutes and entering a world of 80s sci-fi nostalgia. In the upside down world, a slew of actors will transport you to another world within the walls of series of blue luminous rooms. Accomodating up to 18 people per session, this is your chance to get hands on, as you crack codes and drink cocktails. Your mission – to find a young girl who’s gone missing.
You and your associates are there to save the day, but be certain this is no PG adventure. You’ll be shaking and stirring some hard liquor courtesy of Captain Morgan, test tubes and beakers adding to the fun and frivolities.
Without giving too much away, this really is the perfect experience for hens, corporates or groups of friends looking to take their routine dinner and drink outing to new heights. Not only does it give you a chance to get hands on and work as a team, it’s done in a way that will keep everyone in your group well and truly entertained.
The Lock In is open now, with various time slots available between Thursdays and Saturdays.
