After 20 years in Surry Hills, Il Baretto finds a new home in Paddington.
Earlier this year, Il Baretto quietly closed the doors to its Bourke Street restaurant for the final time. Renowned as one of the best BYO Italian restaurants in Surry Hills, Il Baretto was a beloved local favourite (where you can score a delicious bowl of housemade pasta for just $20). But now, the Il Baretto crew have announced exciting news about the location of their new dining room.
From Friday, October 9th Il Baretto will open its doors at the back of the Paddo Inn. This neighbourhood Paddington pub has welcome the Il Baretto crew into the space of their old dining room, with the Solotel crew still running the front bar as usual.
It’s an exciting partnership for both venues, with Il Baretto’s owner Gabriella Fedeli thrilled to announce this latest move. “I think Il Baretto fits in nicely with the growing food culture of Paddington,” says Fedeli. “Everyone is kind of doing their own thing well, which is great for people coming to the area.”
So, what can you expect from Il Baretto at the Paddo Inn? The restaurant’s relaxed charm will return along with several menu favourites. For starters you’ll find the likes of bruschetta al pomodoro; salame norcia; or carpaccio di manzo. Plus, they’ll be plenty of delicious pasta options including the signature rich, slow-cooked duck ragu with pappardelle; homemade gnocchi; and spaghetti alle vongole with salty clams, fresh tomatoes, parsley, garlic, and a dash of white wine.
As for drinks, Il Baretto at Paddo Inn will deliver a curated selection of 11 Italian and Australian wines (along with an Aperol Spritz and blood orange negroni). It’s an exciting move for the Il Baretto team who will continue to serve traditional regional Italian food that honours the simplicity of Italian cooking to Sydneysiders.
As for Paddo Inn’s front bar, you’ll even be able to grab delicious dishes prepared by Il Baretto including the likes of a pork and fennel sausage panino; beef lasagne; and zucca and farro salad with cured salmon or grilled pecorino on the bar menu.
Bookings are now open from Il Baretto at Paddo Inn, with the first service being dinner on Friday, October 9th (with lunch serving kicking off from October 10th). To find out more and secure your spot, click here.
