Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla

/ 18 July 2023

It’s Hurricane’s but not as you know it. The new Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla is bringing coastal, Mediterranean-inspired luxury to The Shire.

Most Sydneysiders would have heard of Hurricane’s before and no doubt tried their famous ribs. But the latest venue is like nothing you’ve experienced before from the group. Tony Teixeira, the mastermind behind Hurricane’s, is no stranger to the restaurant game. Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla is his fifth venue and has taken the Hurricane’s brand to a whole new level. Prepare to be impressed by the elevated Mediterranean-inspired menu and the gorgeous interiors making it a luxe addition to the beachside suburb.

Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla is big and it’s beautiful. A massive 300-seat venue, with a restaurant, bar, outdoor seating and private dining room. The fit-out has been done by award-winning hospitality designer Luchetti Krelle. Picture a magical grotto-like setting with sculptural curves and arches that resemble chalky cliffs. The sandstone elements perfectly capture the coastal surroundings, while pops of nutmeg, paprika, and olive add a touch of vibrant energy.

You’ll find it opposite South Cronulla Beach and come summer it’s sure to be packed with beach-to-bar locals. Whether you’re in the mood for sipping cocktails and nibbling on snacks at the bar, enjoying a relaxed post-beach lunch, or celebrating a special occasion in the beautifully designed restaurant or private dining room, Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla has got it all.

Tony has been working with consulting chef Justin North from Concept Hospitality on this new restaurant for over 12 months. They have spent the last year crafting an exciting Mediterranean-inspired menu with a goal to create a local, casual coastal grill and bar that pays homage to Hurricane’s classics while introducing delightful new dishes tailored to the beachside location. Prepare for a culinary feast featuring some of Australia’s finest producers.

Since Cronulla is all about that seaside vibe, seafood takes centre stage on the a la carte menu. Dive into the raw bar and treat yourself to Sydney rock oysters, kingfish ceviche, and scallop crudo that will transport you to the Mediterranean coast. Starters like grilled king prawns and Hervey Bay scallops with lime, miso, and garlic burnt butter will make your taste buds dance with joy. Mains include a seafood platter and whole lobster with herb butter. But you can’t go past their steak selection. They have a number of cuts and a special dry-aged program. Choose from cuts including a Great Southern Pinnacle pasture-fed scotch fillet, the 1.5-kilo Tomahawk steak, or the 400-day grain-fed Tajima wagyu beef sirloin. And fear not die-hard Hurricane’s fans you can still order your beloved ribs.

Stéphane Pommier is the industry sommelier and consultant who has curated a wine list of over 80 European, American, and Australian gems to complement the menu and elevate your dining experience. And if cocktails are your jam, Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla has a vibrant collection of classic cocktails with a twist, signature martinis, and an artisanal gin and tonic selection featuring local distilleries. They also have a dedicated margarita section on the menu. The chilli, coconut mezcal margarita is a must!

When Tony purchased the site in 2021, he had a vision of creating something truly special for Cronulla. “It is such a special community,” he says, “and I love the beachside location, which is a perfect fit for a Mediterranean coastal grill.” With Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Cronulla now open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, you can gather your friends, bring your appetite and relax in the heart of Cronulla.
