Darlinghurst Welcomes Hank’s Bar To The Bustling Oxford Strip

Bars, Sydney / 13 October 2021

Drink beer, eat pizza and have a good ol’ time at Hank’s.

Darlinghurst has to be one of Sydney’s best neighbourhoods for a bar crawl. With an impressive lineup of bars including Shady Pines, Love Tilly Devine and East Village, there’s always somewhere to get your post-work tipple. As if Oxford Street needed some more options, Hank’s has set up shop beneath the popular craft beer haven Bitter Phew.

The bar is set to be your new flavourite watering hole with a distinct Australian attitude to drinking and socialising. The space has been designed with community in mind, bringing open spaces where people can mingle, have a great time and feel at home. Think of the place as an old local bar with a modern-day twist on the drinks menu.

Lou Dare, formerly of Charlie Parkers, Employees Only and Burrow Bar, has joined the team as Bar Manager. Dare brings his passion for Australian spirits to Hank’s with cocktails including the House Martini with 23rd St Distillery Gin from South Australia and Sydney Spritz with vermouth made with weeds foraged from the inner west suburbs of Sydney. You’ll also notice the Australian influence with cocktail names such as White Sands Negroni and the Cassowary.

The wine list will boast minimal intervention drops to better suit today’s tastes. You’ll see names including Vinden Estate, Ari’s Natural Wines and Jean Bouteille. However, the real kicker is Hank’s own-labeled pale ales. The First Round Pale Ale and the Shotgun Lager are the most impressive when it comes to frothies and they’re available by the tap or can, whichever you prefer.

To match, you’ll be able to get a damn good pizza because what better to line your stomach. Anthony Lot from Alberto’s and 10 Williams will be taking charge of the menu. You’ll see the classics including Margherita and the Soppressa, as well as new style pizzas such as the Nduja with ricotta, kale and honey. Bar snacks including Deep-fried Pickled Artichokes, “Venetian-style” Meatballs, an Octopus Salad will also be part of the line-up.

Bringing back the neighbourhood bar vibes, Hank’s is set to be a welcome oasis for Darlinghurst/Surry Hills locals and visitors alike. The bar will open Wednesday, 20 October and will operate weekly from Wednesday through to Saturday, from the hours of 5pm until 12am.
