Bondi Beach’s very own short film festival is returning for its 32nd instalment in January.
Heading to the movies is a Sydneysider’s favourite activity but if you’re short on time, setting aside 3 hours to sit through a blockbuster flick can be a big commitment. Luckily, the annual summer short film competition, Flickerfest, is returning to Bondi Beach to celebrate the best of Australia’s short films. Mark your diaries!
Now in its 32nd year, Flickerfest Short Film Festival will be running from the 20th to the 29th of January, 2023. The festival will return to its old home, the stylishly revamped Bondi Pavillion, presenting a not to be missed season showcasing our most exciting emerging talent.
For 2023, the festival has received over 3,000 entries, making Flickerfest the world’s leading and most respected platform for short films. In fact, the event is Australia’s only Academy®™ accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, making it an unmissable event in the city’s summer calendar.
The shorts in the competition are up for a number of prestigious prizes including the Flickerfest Award for Best International Short Film, the Yoram Gross Award for Best International Animation, the Panasonic Lumix for Best Australian Short Film and the Flickerfest Award for Best Documentary. Get ready to experience 200 of the most creative and inspiring short films at Flickerfest 2023, showcased across 29 dedicated festival programs.
Alongside the best of short films from Australia, audiences will be delighted with amazing LBTQI films in competition at home and across the world (Rainbow Shorts), special showcases of kids and family-friendly films (FlickerKids), films about relationships (Love Bites) and hilarious comedy films (Short Laughs).
