Flamingo Lounge Opens in Potts Point

Bars, Drink, Sydney / 25 September 2017

The team from Casablanca open Flamingo Lounge in the old Hugos Lounge site.

Following the introduction of the lock-out laws in late 2015 Hugos Lounge closed its doors leaving Sydneysiders with one less inner-city bar and nightclub to frequent. After a multi-million-dollar redevelopment of the Bayswater address, the team behind Casablanca in Double Bay have opened Flamingo Lounge.
Billed as a Miami oasis in the heart of the city, Flamingo Lounge dazzles with pops of Cuban Art Decor. The 70s inspired venue has been crafted by Josh Clapp from Steel + Stitch (Lobo Plantation, El Topo) and comprises of two distinct settings: The Discotheque and The Terrace. Boogie nights comes to Potts Point with The Discoteque dance floor capable of holding 250 people and two bars. For groups of nine to fifteen you can escape the crowd with two parlours. Reserved for VIPs a night in the parlour will set you back $1,500.
If that doesn’t appeal, head upstairs to The Terrace. With food service and an intimate lounge vibe the area includes seven VIP booths. Relax in the alfresco space fit for 400. Classic Italian pizzas, such as the Queen Margherita ($20) and The Imperial ($24) with marinated prawns and hot chilli flakes are on offer as are simple share plates of Arancini de Venere ($22) and Skewers Caprese Salad ($18).

With a hint of Cuban flair, the cocktail list is long, but there are a number of potential standouts. Taking inspiration from Queen B herself, trial Becky with the Good Hair ($19.50) a cooling concoction of coconut, mint, lemon, pineapple and vodka. Or you can keep the night going until late with the Excitabull ($18.50), where peach schnapps, vodka and cranberry juice meet Redbull.
Sneaky Sundays were made infamous by Hugos and are back at Flamingo Lounge. They kick off Sunday 1st October with former headliners from the original Sneaky Sundays including Miss Connie, Black Angus, Jimmy 2 Sox and Jonny Pow.
The champagne may already be popping at Flamingo Lounge, but soon it will be joined be Chula, a Mexican-inspired bar and kitchen. The refined dining experience is set to breath life into the old Hugos Pizza restaurant on the Bayswater Street level in October. Read more about Chula restaurant here.
