A New Gin Distillery Has Opened Just 1 Hour From Sydney

Drink, Sydney / 28 May 2024

With a new range of experiences like workshops, cocktail classes and botanical garden tours.

Calling all gin lovers! The global award-winning Distillery Botanica have just unveiled its newest 144-square-metre cellar door and expansive botanical gardens. Settling into the sunny suburb of Erina on NSW’s central coast, this new distillery is all about celebrating the wonders of gin and educating customers on how the liquor is made through hands-on experiences. Deep dive into the wonders of gin-distilling, drinking and cocktail-making in one convenient place.

Distillery Botanica are no strangers to liqueurs. They first opened their doors in 2007 and went on to produce their acclaimed Moore’s Dry Gin – the first Australian gin to ever win Gold at the prestigious London International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC). The cellar door is Distillery Botanica’s tribute to the spirit, which took almost 2 years to complete. Step through the gates and you’ll be greeted with their impressive 2400 litre copper still, towering at 4 metres high. The still is the heart of Distiller Phillip Moore’s craft, specifically created for him and his team to produce all of Moore’s gins.

Outside lies Distillery Botanica’s garden, a 760-metre squared oasis inspired by the walled citrus gardens of Spain and Persia. A martini glass-shaped fountain sits all the way at the top, with citrus fruits and garden beds spilling throughout the entire garden, containing botanicals used to make Distillery Botanica’s drinks.

To make your trip up north worthwhile, the team have introduced a range of new experiences at the distillery. Master your gin skills with a gin-distilling workshop, where you can take the lead and filter your own personalised gin. Pick botanicals from the garden, watch your mix filter through, design and print your label then enjoy a refreshing G&T with your creation. Opt for an in-depth guided tour with a Distillery Botanica team member, where they’ll walk you through the garden’s unique plants before exploring the distillery room and its intricate processes. Or if you’re interested in just a tasting, you can try the full range for just $5, including six gins, two liqueurs, vodka, and new Terrigal rum.

Distillery Botanica is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am to 4 pm. For more information, visit their website here.
