David Jones Food Hall Has Had An Incredible Makeover

The new David Jones Food Hall in Bondi Junction is a haven for food lovers you need to discover.

Australian’s love affair with food is getting stronger by the day. Our thirst for knowledge about where food is coming from, seasonality and different cooking styles is insatiable. Answering to this trend is David Jones who last week revealed the new David Jones Food Hall- a reimagined food market concept in Bondi Junction. Forget the old David Jones Food Hall. The chocolate dipped strawberries are still there but you’ll barely recognise it since the relaunch.

Chef Neil Perry has played a major role in the new David Jones Food Hall curating the offering and he’s done an incredible job.
You’ll find stand-alone food stores, plenty of premium brands as well as David Jones’ own premium brand across different products. They have an oyster bar, cheese bar and dry aged meat section. It also houses a casual cafe where you can enjoy food from the hall at your leisure and a more upscale restaurant. The have a premium alcohol selection with a focuses on Australian products or unique drops that are hard to find.

For the health conscious and time poor you’ll love their ready-made meals. They have a shelf life of 4 days as opposed to a lot of other supermarkets which average around 30 days. So there are less preservatives in the food. If you’ve been to Marks & Spencer in the UK you’ll feel a sense of nostalgia. There’s a reason M&S have been around for so long, they’re on to a winning formula and i’m sure DJs will follow suit.
Sure, being a premium retailer you can expect a higher price tag than your local Woolies. But you can also find some excellent value on the shelves. Take their Dinner Deal for example. You can get a beef striploin for 2 (500g) or rack of lamb (400g) + 2 vegetable sides + a bottle of Chardonnay or Pinot Noir for just $30. These types of bundled specials will be a regular in-store fixture.

Rather than a brightly lit grocery store you feel like you’re in a premium night market with soft lighting and beautifully styled stations everywhere.

In the middle of this foodie emporium is an enclosed glass 10 seater private dining room. I was lucky enough to have dinner there on opening night with Neil Perry and got to sample one of their set menus.
