Celebrate the Year of the Ox with Chatswood’s Lunar New Year celebrations this February.

Looking for the perfect way to celebrate Lunar New Year in Sydney? This February, Chatwood’s Year of the Ox Festival will bring the suburb alive from February 3rd to 28th 2021.

Get ready for a jam-packed festival program (hosted by Willoughby City Council), with a series of COVID-safe events celebrating luck, prosperity, and good health for the new year ahead.

From delicious delicacies to vibrant cultural performances, this year’s festival offers attendees the chance to experience food and entertainment from China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, and beyond.

  1. Lunar New Year Comedy (Sat, February 27th): check out this inaugural comedy festival, featuring some of Australia’s best acts across two 75-minute shows, hosted by comedian and Lunar New Year enthusiast Jennifer Wong.
  2. Chinese New Year Cultural Celebration Concert (Sat, February 20th): head to The Concourse Theatre to enjoy some of the best young musical prodigies from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Rising Stars at the Con Program, along with impressive martial arts demonstrations, traditional lion dancing, Chinese folk and classical music and contemporary dance hosted by SBS PopAsia host and martial arts expert Andy Trieu.
  3. Precious Treasure (February 3rd to 28th): check out this inspiring exhibition of painting, sculpture, and installations by one of the most important contemporary artists of Chinese descent in Australia, Guan Wei. along with six of Australia’s top artists.
  4. Golden Market (Thursday and Fridays throughout February): head to Chatswood Mall to explore 35 stalls of flowers, lucky bamboo, delicious New Year treats, and more (open 9 am to 9 pm).
