Head to Barangaroo this summer for perfectly crafted Italian cocktails from the Campari Aperitivo Window.
Ever wished scoring a cocktail was as simple as ringing a bell? At this new pop-up cocktail window, it is.
If you’re dreaming of a European summer, you’re in luck. Kicking off on January 21st and running until February 28th, the first-ever secretive Campari Aperitivo Window will be opening at Barangaroo House’s rooftop bar, Smoke Bar. It’s the perfect chance to score well-made Italian cocktail classics, including Negronis, Campari Spritz, and Campari Sodas this summer.
So, what’s the deal with this window concept? It’s actually inspired by the ‘wine windows’ of Florence and Tuscany that came to fame during the 17th Century plague (sounds familiar, right?). It gave Italians the chance to score delicious drinks (and refills) without coming into direct contact with others.
And even more interestingly, while these windows have been closed for centuries, over 150 have reopened in 2020 due to the lockdowns in Italy. And now, the concept is landing in the heart of Sydney.
Here’s how the Campari Aperitivo Window will work at Smoke Bar. The window will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays during Aperitivo Hour (4 pm to 6 pm), with Negronis, Campari Spritz, and Campari Sodas on the menu.
To score your Italian cocktail, simply head to Smoke Bar, order your drink with a waiter to receive a Campari token. Head to the Aperitivo window, ring the bell and present your token to watch your drink appear. Genius.
And to complement these Campari tipples, executive chef Tom Haynes has curated a range of bar snacks for the occasion. Nibble your way through a selection of Italian-style cured meats and cheese to share, Sydney Rock Oysters, and plenty more. Plus, they’ll be Sydney’s best DJs hitting the decks at Smoke Bar to create the ultimate rooftop experience.
The Campari Aperitivo Window will be open at Smoke Bar from January 21st to February 28th (running Thur to Sat from 4 to 6 pm). Entry is free.
