Get ready for Cafe Freda’s, a new eatery, neighbourhood bar, and creative space coming soon to Darlinghurst.
For the past 9 years, Freda’s has been a late-night favourite for a drink and a boogie in the inner city. But in November, the team sadly closed this beloved small bar and performance space after close to a decade. But now, the Freda’s team are back with a brand new venue opening in just a matter of days.
Meet Cafe Freda’s, a new eatery, neighbourhood bar, and creative gathering space opening soon in Darlinghurst. The venue finds its home on the iconic corner of Sydney’s Oxford Street in Taylor’s Square, set to offer a new vision and offering centered around food, wine, and creativity.
At Cafe’s Freda’s, expect to find the best local and international DJs hitting the stage, along with live performances, readings, and exhibitions. The idea for the venue, crafted by David Abram along with his partner artist Carla Uriarte, hopes to offer a new, creative format for Sydneysiders to enjoy.
Inside, you’ll find a warm, welcoming space designed by Philip Abram Architects and built by International Worldwide. They’ll be repurposed interiors from Freda’s bar along with playful colours and custom design elements by Carla Uriarte.
The menu at Cafe Freda’s has been curated by Head Chef, Xinyi Lim, offering local, sustainable eats influenced by her Chinese-Malaysian heritage. As for drinks, the wines have been curated by Darcy Creenaune Ellis to showcase both minimal intervention styles and classic drops from local and international producers.
They’ll also be cocktails that hope to bring a slice of Ibiza to Sydney, including spritzers, margaritas, and other refreshing favourites alongside all the classics.
The best bit? Cafe Freda’s will be swinging open its doors to the public on New Year’s Eve. Expect two sessions featuring a set menu as well as music by Freda’s residents DJ Crabby, DJ Salami & friends. Secure your spot ($75 + BF) here.
