Bella Brutta Pizzeria Officially Opens its Doors in Newtown

Eat, Sydney / 17 October 2018

Meaning ‘Beautiful Ugly’, meet Bella Brutta – Newtown’s brand spanking new suave pizza joint.

If you’ve been to LP’s Quality Meats or Porteño, you’ll be strongly familiar with the sense of cool that oozes from these dining hotspots. Now, the lord of meats Luke Powell from Chippendale’s LP’s have teamed up with Elvis Abrahanowicz and Joe Valore of Porteño to create a snappy new offering. Meet – Bella Brutta.

Throwing their hats into the competitive pizza market, Bella Brutta is tactically positioned somewhere between traditional pizzeria and innovative hangout. Meaning ‘Beautiful Ugly’, what you’ll find are imperfectly shaped pizzas mapped with charred crusts.

It’s just how Luke Powell and the crew like it. Luke can also be found serving up his famed salumi and sausage, with the added bonus of a meat smoker at the new site. One things for certain, you’re in for a deliciously meat-filled affair.

As for the all important pizza menu, Bella Brutta honours the classics, from Marinara ($17), topped with optional fior di latte ($3) to Pepperoni ($24), which is fittingly topped with salami from LP’s Quality Meats. Side dishes include the likes of green tomatoes with stracciatella ($12), white beans with salsa verde ($12), celery with sunflower seed, celtuce and pecorino ($14) and more.

The site, which has taken over the old Max Mex on King Street in Newtown, operates as a tight 50-seater restaurant. Taking its cues from the sun-drenched pizzerias of Northern Italy, you’ll find an inviting courtyard, along with a sizeable bar. Bottle green and white hues encompass the trendy space.

Bella Brutta is now open, operating Mon-Fri dinner, Sat-Sun lunch and dinner.
