Hinchcliff House Unveils New Laneway Bar In Quay Quarters

Eat, Sydney / 23 February 2022

Bar Mammoni takes you from AM to PM with coffee, pastries, cocktails & pizza, served from Sydney’s newest laneway dining precinct.

The masterminds behind the refurbishment of Hinchcliff House have done it again! After introducing us to Grana, Lana and Apollonia, the team has set their sights on bringing something new to the Quay Quarters. Bar Mommoni is set to open on Wednesday, 2nd of March bringing city workers somewhere to get their morning fuel and post-work tipple. The name loosely translates to ‘mummas boy’ in Italian, which seems fitting when the team will be there all day, serving up Italian bites and beverages to keep you well fed.

The bar is located just next door to its sister venues offering just 30 seats with high stools tucked underneath the windows and tables scattered throughout the laneway. The styling is clean and neutral, as you can expect from any Hinchcliff House venue. It’s obvious Bar Mammoni was inspired by the simple Italian lifestyle – gathering over a bite to eat in good company and being served by the nonnas of the world.
Pastry Chef Jonny Pisanelli will be baking each night at Grana and walking crispy pastries over each morning. Expect a Gelato Millefoglie, Sugar Lips Croissant Cannoli and Croissant Cubes, accompanied by no other than Allpress coffee.

Come lunchtime, Pisanelli and Head Chef Jason Duncan (Charlie Parker’s) will be serving pizza by the slice, heated to order right in front of your eyes on Bar Mammoni’s countertop. The bases are made from freshly milled flour from Grana with a 72-hour slow-fermentation process keeping them extra light. They’ll be topped with combinations including nduja and caramelised onion; prosciutto, blue cheese and boozy fig or confit garlic, smoked stracciatella and fennel. If you’re after something a little meatier, the Bar Mammoni signature is set to be the juicy Spiced Lamb Meatballs with house-made piadina and wild rocket salad. All are available to take away or enjoy from one of the laneway tables – but get in quick!

In honour of Italy’s Apritivo Hour, the bartenders have curated a selection of Laneway Spritz for you to choose from. Each is light and refreshing, highlighting house-made ingredients and a combination of Australian and Italian spirits. The menu will change in accordance with the seasons, but upon opening, you can expect the Passito Spritz with Zibibbo Passito and Passiona, the Strawberry Spritz with Italian Aperitivo, strawberry and lavender, and the Rosemary Spritz with rosemary vermouth and lemon myrtle. Each is of course topped with only the best Prosecco and soda for a refershing concoction. Bar Mammoni will also offer an incredible selection of tap and bottled wines, Amaro and a signature Negroni – beacuse no menu is complete without one.

We all know a spritz and snack go hand in hand, so the menu comes complete with a Mortadella and Whipped Ricotta Cro-Sando, Lobster Roll Bruschetta and Whipped Lardo Pizzetta with wild honey and fresh herbs. If you want to share something from the middle of the table in true Italian style, opt for the Mammoni Snack Platter.

This is a walk-in-only venue so get in quick each afternoon for a seat. Open Tuesday – Sunday from 7am till late.
