Bamboo Dumpling Bar

Bars, Drink, Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 10 June 2010

A few weeks ago I was hanging out with my pals Oracle and Pet. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and we were craving dumplings and a cold beer. We headed to No Names of Oxford St but they didn’t open till 4pm and our rumbling tummies couldn’t wait another hour.
We walked to Surry Hills and as our legs grew tired and weary we started to lose hope of quenching our dumpling desire. Sure, there were other places serving dumplings and plenty of pubs serving beer but try and combine the two on a Saturday arvo in Surry Hills!!
As a last ditch attempt I posted a cry for help on Twitter land:
@msdarlinghurst: “Where can you get dumplings and a beer this time of day in Surry Hills”
I got a tweet back within 1 minute from @Reemski: “bamboo dumpling at the pub on the corner of Commonwealth and Resevoir” “heard it’s good but haven’t been myself”
That was good enough for us!
We got to Bamboo Dumpling Bar and as the sun hid behind the clouds and the rain bucketed down we hussled inside to the quirky, warm sanctuary of Dumpling Mecca.
We stayed there all afternoon, partly avoiding the rain but mostly for the delicious prawn dumplings, yummy duck pancakes and best of all we could drink beers from the pub nextdoor at the same time!

The place is run by a guy called Michael who owns this place and 2 other Bamboo Dumpling Bars (one in Potts Point and another in Balmain due to open in mid June)
Be sure to check it out next time you’re on a dumpling and beer mission at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon or any other day of the week between 12-10pm for that matter.
