A 90s Themed Outdoor Silent Cinema is Popping up in Chippendale

Cool Sh*t, Play, Sydney / 29 August 2018

Central Park Mall plays host to the ultimate 90s throwback with pop-up silent cinema screenings.

Can you feel it? Spring fever is definitely in the air and that means the return of Sydney’s beloved outdoor cinema screenings, this time in Chippendale’s vibrant locale. Kicking off on 6th September and running every Thursday throughout September, Chippendale Green, otherwise known as the park behind Central Park Mall, will be transformed into a cosy moonlight silent cinema haven.
It comes complete with a 15 square metre screen, plenty of blankets to cuddle up to and individual headphones, meaning you won’t miss a second of the action. You’ll ride the infectious wave of 90s nostalgia, with each screening paying homage to what has been referred to as the era of cinema.
The first iconic film to grace the screen is Brittany Murphy’s Clueless on 6th September. It’s from there that everyone’s favourite 10 Things I Hate About You will feature on 13th September. It follows on from the action packed film Speed.
The last film to grace the silver screen on 27th September is a Julia Roberts classic – Pretty Woman. If you haven’t seen this film, it’s obligatory that you head along and cross it off your movie watching bucket list.
For a pre-cinema feed, Central Park Mall has got you covered with plenty of delicious options, including Din Tai Fung for a dumpling feast, plus La La Malaysian, Mai Vet and crowd pleaser Guzman y Gomez.
Tickets are $10pp, and if that wasn’t enough of a bargain, moviegoers will also receive a $10 voucher to spend on dining in Central Park Mall. Not only this, but all proceeds from the month long activation are going to an incredibly important cause – Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale. This charity looks to provide tangible resources to drought effected communities, including stock feed, money and volunteers.
Central Park Mall will be running outdoor movies every Thursday from 7pm between 6-27 September.
