A brand new reincarnation of Melbourne favourite, White Mojo, brings coffee and Insta-fame to the city’s south east

Glen Waverley is now host to the third instalment of White Mojo, a restaurant franchise known best for boasting Melbourne’s, ‘Most Instagrammable Breakfast’. The interior design of this new opening makes no pretense to ambiguate the expected continuation of this phone-based mania, while the perfectly presented food at the launch party invites a flurry of cameras snapping social content.

The launch party brought out the big guns; from a donut wall to a dessert table scattered with dark chocolate soil, but for the average diner is there anything here worth visiting other than a superficial veneer? Time to review with no filter.

Among the myriad of interior adornment can be found a ceiling of faux-flowers above a sharp white dining table, a mock-stone lion’s head fountain in the covered outdoor courtyard and a glass-encased coffee-roasting parlour. It’s a significant checklist, but it doesn’t quite come together as a whole.

Thankfully though, the coffee is great. The beans are selected and roasted in-house and are part of an extensive drinks list including lattes in all kinds of forms – try the matcha, or the black infusion of peanut and sesame!
White Mojo has a well-considered menu, but at $21 for scrambled eggs, you’ll be hoping to garner a fair few likes to warrant such expenditure. Expensive eggs aside, the standout dish is the White Mojo Signature Croissant Burger, a heady mix of soft-shell crab encased in a croissant with the more rogue, and more original, elements of smoked eel and chorizo crumb. It’s a small flash of brilliance in a menu that has many exciting, if not a little predictable, dishes.

Overall, White Mojo Glen Waverly is a bit of fun. It’s certainly worth a visit for the coffee, and for that one good Insta shot of the dark chocolate soil accompanying your Hazelnut Praline Chocolate Mousse. Tip: Stick a Clarendon filter over that pic before posting.
