This winning bartender’s cocktail is rich and decadent and you can make it at home

Melbourne based bartender Alex Boon is currently creating the most drinkable concoctions at illustrious Mjølner, a moody viking-inspired bar and restaurant. He was recently crowned the Australian winner of prestigious bartending competition, Diego Reserve WORLD CLASS, propelling him to compete for the the global title in Scotland later this year.

Before packing up his cocktail shaker and moving to Melbourne, Alex spent over 10 years crafting his skills as a bartender and host throughout Brisbane at the likes of The Bowery, Finney Isles, Seymour’s Cocktails and Oysters and Jahh Tiger to name a few.

The 2019 Australian competition challenged professional bartenders across the country to create a unique cocktail using spirits from Diageo’s Reserve portfolio – Ketel One Vodka, Tanqueray No. TEN Gin and Talisker 10-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky. For the grand final the Top 20 were put through their paces at a two-day event hosted at The Dolphin & Scout Bar in Sydney, by a panel of industry experts, judged on quality, presentation, service and of course, taste.

Alex’s winning entry for the Talisker Time & Place Challenge is a rich and decadent cocktail with a medley of cherry, coconut, chocolate and caramel flavours complementing the notes in a Talisker 10 Yr Old Scotch Whisky.

Here’s what you’ll need to make it at home:

10ml Ristretto
