Pool parties, nude hikes, food trucks and more. It’s summer, meaning Midsumma Festival is back.
Melbourne’s most community-friendly festival is back in 2018 for three entertainment-packed weeks this summer. Starting Sunday 14th January and running until 4th February, Midsumma Festival is bringing together and celebrating Melbourne’s LGBTQIA+ community and friends with a fun collaborative and contemporary celebration of queer arts and culture.
Drawing to the fore sexuality and gender diversity, Midsumma covers an entire scope of creative outlets, including sports, fashion, live performances plus much, much more. With over 170 events scheduled in 2018 and involvement by over 500 culture-makers in over 100 different venues across Melbourne and wider Victoria, this year’s celebration is set to be bigger and better than ever.
Sports displays will range from the fun to the downright devilish, including a VicTennis special 2018 tennis tournament, cycling by the bay and for the adventurous sportswoman/man, a nude 7km hike and swim.
Come Sunday 14th January, pooch lovers won’t want to miss the famous Dog Show. Categories include Cutest Bitch, Sexiest Stud, Best Trick as well as Best Owner/Dog Combo. With category winners receiving a My Pet Warehouse prize pack, you’ll want to get your pooch primed for the big day!
A fashion design competition will also offer all aspiring designers to have their moment on the runway, with Levi’s gift vouchers up for grabs for the top three apparel and garment designs.
Accompanying the Midsumma Festival will be a range of treats to keep you fed, hydrated and in the community spirit. At Carnival, you’ll find a total of 17 food trucks, plus pop-up bars and a variety of stalls situated in the Stalls Village of the Picnic Precinct.
Under 18s won’t be missing as Australia’s largest youth organisation Minus18 gets ready to host an under ages ‘rest zone’.
