North Carlton’s Babajan opening their doors for dinner every weekend – talk about a Turkish delight!
You might already know of Babajan as a tasty spot to grab breakfast, brunch or lunch with Middle Eastern flavours to relish, but now they’re serving up dinner too. The relaxed atmosphere is perfect for catch ups with friends, accompanied by modern Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine.
Light and inviting, Babajan makes you feel like a regular, regardless of whether you are or not, from the second you walk in the door. That sense of comfort is only enhanced by the friendly service.
A signature cocktail is worth ordering to kick off your evening – the Sacred Marianne is a spicey option featuring Vodka, Tomato, Smoked Cola, Bibet, Lemon, Cucumber and Celery Bitters – sure to warm the tastebuds up. Alternatively, a carafe of Babajan house wine or a cold beer are always solid choices.
On one hand dinner at Babajan feels like you’re at a friend’s place – it’s laidback, comfortable and easy. On the other hand, the quality of the food you’re treated to has all the makings of fine dining and the flavours are truly sensational.
Warm, soft Turkish bread with babaganouj is seemingly simple but seriously special to kick things off – such is the magic of Babajan. It comes down to quality and the care in preparing each dish. It’s also pleasing when there is sufficient bread to enjoy your dip, and Babajan nailed the ratio.
Have you ever had a dish that you just wish will never end? Babajan’s Pan Fried Saganaki with Pears, Cardamom and Honey is that dish. I could talk about how the cheese melted in my mouth and how the pears, cardamom and honey danced on my tastebuds, but words can’t do it justice.
A dining experience at Babajan should definitely include the 12-hour braised lamb shoulder – and it’s also worth adding to your breakfast if you venture back in the AM.
Fill your Friday or Saturday night with all the finesse of fine dining in a chilled environment that is truly excellent value too – Babajan is set to be a new favourite dinner spot in Carlton North.
Babajan is open for dinner Friday and Saturday nights from 6pm – 9pm
