Ombra is a subterranean cocktail and wine bar with an extensive wine collection, creative cocktails and globally inspired small plates. Pop in for after-work drinks or settle in for late-night dining.
Led by husband-and-wife duo Stefan and Minori Briggs, Ombra is named for the Venetian habit of andare per ombre, drifting from stall to stall for a small glass of wine and a bite of cicchetti. Here that ritual lives in a basement off the corner of King and Clarence streets, and it works.
The wine list is borderless, with Italian classics, serious Australian producers and rare, collectible bottles. The cocktails are playful, with native Australian ingredients turning up in unexpected places. The food is made for sharing. Think Sydney rock oysters, wagyu carpaccio, kingfish tartare and hibachi grilled skewers, with live music adding energy to the intimate space.
Quick Bites
EAT: The hiramasa kingfish tartare with finger lime and prawn crackers, followed by a couple of hibachi grilled wagyu skewers.
DRINK: Melon Drama, an all Australian serve built on Seven Seasons Green Ant Gin.
