Young Henry’s Newtown

Young Henrys Newtown is moving onto the main drag.

For almost 15 years, Young Henrys has been tucked down a Newtown backstreet behind a graffiti-covered roller door, pouring beers for anyone who ventures off of King Street or Enmore Road. Now, it will finally be in the spotlight.

The brewery is taking over the former Mountain Goat Brewery location at 435 King Street. The new site is a 155-seat space with 12 taps to showcase Young Henrys brews, including the staple Newtowner.

Mates Oscar McMahon and Richard Adamson started the brewery at the current Wilford Street with a simple motto, serve the people, and its flagship Newtowner pale ale began life as a birthday present to the 2042 postcode. Fourteen years on it's an independent, B Corp-certified institution with a rock'n'roll heart, a long list of music collaborations and an algae bioreactor that captures carbon from the brewing process.

The tasting bar is a no-frills, warehouse-style hangout where you can drink Newtowner straight from the source alongside the Natural Lager, Hazy Pale Ale, IPA and a rotating cast of limited releases and collabs, plus cloudy cider and a Noble Cut gin and tonic for the non-beer crowd. Happy hour runs weekdays from 3pm to 5pm with pints for schooner prices, and on weekends local food trucks roll in with burgers, tacos and other beer-friendly eats.

Weekend brewery tours kick off at 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays and finish with a tasting, so book ahead. It's also just a few minutes' walk from the Enmore Theatre, which makes it a go-to for pre-show pints.

While an official date hasn't been released, it's expected to re-open in its new digs from late October.
