Sydney’s favourite coffee roasters opened a flagship store on Broadway serving premium brews and beans to go.
Stitch Coffee has proved to be one of the best brews in Sydney since the roastery opened in Alexandria in 2015. The brand is owned and operated by coffee veteran Nawar Adra (ex-Circa Espresso and Brewtown Newtown), and you can expect the same coffee royalty to take charge of the brand new flagship store on Broadway. The new venue combines a premium coffee retail store with a brew bar to bring a special coffee experience to the streets of Ultimo. The cafe invites people who are serious about their coffee to sample the range before finding their match and taking a bag of fresh beans home.
The new cafe/store is nested opposite the bustling Broadway Shopping Centre in the heritage building on 80 Bay Street. They have respected the buildings original charm leaving the hardwood floors and exposed beams in place, but the team from Designed by Guru Projects have modernised the space with industrial and contemporary details. The place is a minimalists dream with an arched concrete wall that stretches along the length of the cafe, American walnut tables and ceramics by 1616. The new cafe is housed on the same street where Adra once perfected his barista craft at Qube on Bay. Coincidence? We think not.
Filter addicts can spend chilly winter mornings sampling the brews at the filter bar. Don’t drink coffee? You can sink a range of organic teas, buy authentic matcha pods imported from Kyoto and taste Stitch’s very own vegan sticky Chai blend. A small curated selection of pastries will be on offer, however, the main focus will be on freshly roasted coffee. Shoppers will be able to purchase a selection of Stitch’s products including their blends and single-origin beans, drip coffee bags and nitro cold crews, as well as brew gear for their home setups. “We wanted to design an experience that was different to your usual coffee shop,” says Adra. “A place that would help people understand more about the coffee they’re drinking and how great flavour profiles are created through blends. We wanted to make speciality coffee blends approachable and easy to understand, conceptualising an approach where people can actually try before they buy.”
Another reason to love Stitch is because their main focus is sustainability. You can buy your coffee knowing it’s ethically sourced and you can drink your coffee from the ‘i am not paper’ cups knowing their compostable and made from leftover plant husks – very cool
Stitch Coffee Broadway is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm, and Saturday from 8am to 2pm.
