Ouzo, Souvlakia and Sunsets: Jaaks Reopens on the Georges River

Eat / 16 September 2025

Kyle Bay’s waterfront dining room is back, this time with souvlakia, tsipouro, and the casual charm of a Greek island bar.

After months of renovations, Jaaks has reopened on the shores of Kyle Bay, swapping its fine-dining credentials for the laid-back warmth of a Greek mezedopolio, a bar built for sharing small plates, sipping ouzo, and staying long into the night.

The shift comes with a complete reimagining of the space. Gone are the starched linens and formal setting. In their place: timber tables, draped linen sails, sandy hues, and floor-to-ceiling views of the Georges River. At the helm of the kitchen is hatted chef Arman Uz (ex-Efendy Group), who has returned to the venue where his Sydney career first began. His new menu celebrates small plates, seafood, and skewers, from sheftalies reimagined with salmon belly to wagyu souvlakia and kingfish collars cooked over charcoal.

Quick Bites:

  • What to Eat: Mini souvlakia skewers straight off the hibachi grill, pork belly, ox tongue, or even haloumi and cabbage if you’re veg-curious.
  • What to Drink: An Ouzotini: the coastal cousin of a martini, or a Lemonada with homemade Greek-style lemonade.
  • When to Go: A long weekend lunch or a Thursday night sundowner by the water.
  • Cost: Plates from ~$14; souvlakia skewers around $8 each.
  • Where to Play After: Take a sunset stroll along the Georges River foreshore or head to Lugarno Seafood Restaurant nearby for dessert wine and something sweet.
  • Vibe Check: A breezy, modern mezedopolio with the soul of a Greek island taverna.
  • Book It: Reserve here & the lounge is kept open for walk-ins.
