Hidden inside a heritage-listed basement space, Alice’s adult-only offering showcases opulent fine-dining service with a generous pour of fun.
Sydney has scored a run of new bars channelling flamboyant vintage glamour this month, from ESQ – the QVB’s new hidden speakeasy, to Dusk Club – a secret 1920’s inspired cocktail club housed inside Edinburgh Castle Hotel, and this September, we’re thrilled to welcome Alice to the Sydney cocktail bar scene.
The newly renovated, super-luxe space is tucked away at basement level in the former bond stores at 16 Argyle Street. The fit-out is warm, fanciful, flirtatious and filled with feminine energy.
Enter via an ambient stairwell lined with rich velvet drapes, and saunter down to a grown-up oasis of jewel-coloured, fabric-covered booths, banquettes, and bar-side seating for 65 guests. For an extra-special occasion, a semi-private space is available to book. Dramatically curtained off from the main bar, private parties of up to 10 are invited to sink into soft velvet furnishings warmly lit by opulent ostrich-feather lights while enjoying an evening of adult-only decadence.
The cocktail list rivals the décor in big glamour energy, expect clever twists on classics, signature drops and show-stopping innovators, including the Alice Spritz, which comprises Cocchi Americano, Prosecco and Raspberry Shrub; and an ever-so-elegant Salted Mac Irish Coffee, with Macadamia Fat-Washed Connemara, Salted Macadamia Syrup, Espresso and a Cream Float.
For those that prefer their late-night libations with a little fizz, pour your way through the 30-strong Champagne list while soaking up the ambience of this unique drinking destination.
To further tantalise your tastebuds, the bar menu has taken inspiration from sister venues Rockpool Bar & Grill and Spice Temple. A Caviar service served with Tater Tots and Crème Fraiche satiates a light late-night snack craving, while small share plates like Chicken Liver Parfait Profiteroles cater endless delight to chew over into the early hours. For a more serious midnight snack, enjoy a not-so-humble Cheese Sandwich with a decadent filling of Gruyere, Cheddar, Feta and Parmesan with Cheese Dip on the side.
