If you’re after an authentic Sri Lankan feast showcasing seasonal flavours and heart-warming spices, look no further than INDU. Gigi’s Pizzeria, Newtown

Operating as a 100% plant-based pizzeria in the vegan hotspot of Newtown, Gigis is a must-visit for vegans and carnivores alike. With no mozzarella, salami or pepperoni in sight, you’ll feast on delicious woodfired pizzas that are true to the traditional Neapolitan style we know and love. Yulli’s, Surry Hills

As far as vegan-friendly restaurants in Sydney go, Yulli’s is one of our absolute favourites. The Crown Street stalwart has been serving up delicious vegan eats for years, delighting Sydney diners with innovative fusion dishes that pack a flavourful punch. Expect tapas-style share plates with an Asian twist, including everything from San Choy Bow with five-spice tofu to Zucchini Flowers filled with beetroot and truffle oil plus so much more. You’ll also find a selection of vegan-friendly wines on the menu and a lavish banquet menu for just $44 per person. Because no one should be left hungry, they also offer a dedicated gluten-free menu to feed your coeliac friends. For beer lovers, head to their Alexandria brewery to experience an all-vegan menu of bites along with a rotating selection of Yulli’s brewed beers on tap.

Alibi Bar and Kitchen, Woolloomooloo

Alibi is the latest vegan restaurant to arrive at designer hotel Ovolo Woolloomooloo. As the brainchild of famous vegan chef Matthew Kenney, expect an exciting and totally unique dining experience that is a true celebration of plant-based food. From beetroot tartare to char-grilled okra and smoky eggplant, expect to dine on creative and memorable dishes that you will want to tell all your friends about. The bespoke cocktail menu takes its inspiration from local and international flavours, serving up signatures like the Rhubarb and Rose Martinez, and old favourites like the Manhattan and Espresso Martini. The Green Lion, Marrickville

The Green Lion is Sydney’s first plant-based bistro pub, set in the heart of Marrickville. Your mind isn’t playing tricks on you when you read the likes of beef tacos, mac and cheese and beef burgers on the menu (trust us, these dishes taste too good to be true). These pub favourites are made using clever meat and dairy replacements, meaning that you really can have your cake and eat it too. They also offer a range of 100% vegan ready meals and desserts too, which you can find instore or buy online.

As one of the best vegan restaurants in Sydney for casual dining and takeaway, Soul Burger are all about ‘selling real burgers with real meat built from real plants’. To the unsuspecting eye, you might think this is your everyday burger joint, with items including ‘battered fish’, ‘grilled pork’, ‘Southern fried chicken’ and ‘pulled pork’ burgers all featuring on the menu. Don’t be fooled though. There isn’t a meat product or by-product in sight. Mark and Vinny’s, Surry Hills

“Don’t be upsetti and eat some spaghetti”; words to live by, vegan or not! This lively spaghetti and spritz bar is the perfect spot for both vegan and non-vegan friends to dine together, with the menu offering 50/50 plant-based and meat options. Situated on buzzing Waterloo Street in Surry Hills, this neighbourhood gem dishes up old-school pasta classics alongside modern variations. Their famous vegan egg yolk is sure to fool even the most trained eye, so be sure to order the charcoal bucatini to try it for yourself. They also serve up a delicious Lasagne Vegana, with semi-dried tomato and mushroom ragu, truffle bechamel, plant-based mozzarella and basil pesto, because no one should miss out on lasagna.

Funky Pies, Bondi Beach

Fair-trade fast-food is what it’s all about at Funky Pies in Bondi. This 100% vegan pie house will banish any bad memories you had of mystery-meat servo pies. All of their flakey vegan treats are created on site by a small but dedicated team of vegan pie connoisseurs. We suggest trying the ‘G’day Satay’ for a spicy, potato treat. You’re truly living the Aussie dream when you enjoy your Funky Pies’ treat while watching the waves crash at Bondi Beach. But if you’re in a rush, they offer all of their pies takeaway as well. They’ve also got some delicious drinks and desserts on the menu, but we all know who steals the show.

Green Gourmet, St Leonards

The name matches the exterior at this 100% vegan Chinese restaurant. Following a nourishing for the mind, body, and soul philosophy (abstaining from the use of onion and garlic in their cooking for ancient spiritual purposes) their twelve-page menu will have you spoilt for choice. Famed for their innovative use of tofu, you can dine on their beloved vegan Yum Cha menu, go al a carte, or try their banquet menus starting at just $40. Green Gourmet offers a takeaway and catering service, as well as wholesale to a handful of premium grocers. You can find their restaurant in St Leonards, or visit their stall at the Sydney Vegan Markets at Sydney Olympic Park.

Golden Lotus Newtown Cheap Eats 2019

It wouldn’t be a list of the best vegan restaurants in Sydney without mention of Newtown institution Golden Lotus. The Vietnamese eatery serves authentic dishes from Saigon, minus the meat and animal products. On the 100% plant-based, colourful and vibrant menu you’ll find dishes like vegan duck pancakes to vegan chicken or tofu pho and our personal favourite, the combination laksa. This affordable vegan-friendly restaurant is a must-visit for plant-based folk.

Bad Hombres, Surry Hills

For our margarita and taco-loving friends, Bad Hombres is our go-to for vegan Mexican. You will find all of the cuisine’s best dishes on the menu, from nachos and chips guac to Birria tacos and quesadillas. With a Mexican-inspired cocktail menu and natural wine selection mixed with a party playlist, you will want to stay for hours.

Eden Bondi Plant Based 2019

Eden, Bondi Beach

This plant-based eatery opened in just 2019 and has quickly become one of the best vegan restaurants in Bondi. Located on the always-bustline Campbell Parade, Eden takes inspiration from across the globe offering share plates celebrating local produce, botanical cocktails and organic wine, made to share. Choose from dishes like the Shroom Ragu, Sizzling Meatballs, Fysh Tacos, as well as a range of vegan pizzas and desserts. The light-filled dining room dotted with greenery and beautiful furniture is just another reason to spend your Summer afternoon with friends at Eden.
