Both levels of The Redfern have finally reopened after a major renovation to the drinking and dining spaces.
There’s nothing like a good pub transformation and we must say, The Redfern’s new do is pretty impressive. Formerly named Royal Albert Hotel and more recently, The Court House Hotel, the historic pub has contributed to local history for more than 100 years. After the doors closed in 1990, the place undertook a restoration and it’s now open to the public with a major facelift across two levels.
Under the new name, The Redfern, the venue sets out to give locals a place to gather over fine food and beverage. The new space features a warm and welcoming public bar on the street level and a more vibing cocktail bar and lounge upstairs. The styling is contemporary with teal-coloured tiles, stained timber frames around the windows, a brass and zinc top bar and seating amongst exposed brickwork.
For those beer enthusiasts, you’ll find more than 26 tap beers in the Redfern Public Bar, as well as an approachable wine list, sports tv and classic pub food with a twist. You’ll be able to head upstairs to Misfits at The Redfern (which opened in 2018 during the first part of the restoration) for a meal, cocktails, DJs and dancing. It’s not uncommon for people to spend an entire night at the venue, heading in for a boozy long lunch upstairs and downstairs to kick on at the public bar.
The new menu is featured across both levels. You’ll be able to choose from an array of snacks and sides including Sydney Rock Oysters, Smoked Cauliflower & Taleggio Croquettes and Fried Spiced Squid. The pasta menu features seasonal dishes including Prawn Fettuccine, Lamb Ragu Parpadelle and a ‘Secret Pasta’ where you have to trust the chef’s pick of the day. The burger menu features the classics including Cheeseburgers, the Hungry Hen which is a take on a Southern Fried Chicken and Big T which is your classic Beef Burger. For mains, you’ll get all the pub classics but executed perfectly with dishes including Pan-Fried Barramundi, Chicken Schnitzel and Parmi, and 250g Scotch Fillet.
