Redfern’s Favourite Vietnamese Lands Waterside in Barangaroo

Eat, Restaurants / 28 June 2022

Kinhboy is all set for a residency at sister venue Sama Sama, serving up Barangaroo’s first taste of Vietnamese cuisine.

Us Sydneysiders love a light and healthful lunch that doesn’t skimp on flavour, nor stuff us so full we’re left napping at the desk post-lunch. Few cuisines fit the bill better than the fresh and aromatic flavours of Vietnamese, which is why it comes as a huge surprise that Kinhboy will be a Vietnamese-first for Barangaroo.

The Sama Sama X Kinhboy collab is exclusive to the lunch menu, journeying through ‘Nho’, ‘Bun’, ‘Pho’ and ‘Bigs’. Nho features smaller bites with big flavours including; flavourful Prawn & Pork Rice Paper Rolls stuffed to the brim with 13 Vietnamese herbs and vermicelli noodles, served alongside a spicy peanut dipping sauce; and Mud Crab Dumplings stuffed with scallop, prawn and mud crab filling served in a hot and sour tom yum broth.

The ‘Bun’ menu features renditions of the popular Vietnamese salad built on vermicelli rice noodles and topped with a choice of protein. Options include crispy Crackling Pork or Viet Charcoal Chicken served with pickled carrot, cucumber, bean sprouts and peanuts tossed with nouc cham (a sweet & zingy chilli Vietnamese dressing), which also happens to be our top pick for lunch on the go.

Of course, no Vietnamese offering is complete without a hearty bowl of Pho on the menu. Choose from Kinhboy’s Chicken or Beef Short Rib Pho for the ultimate winter warmer featuring an 18-hour broth, house-made egg noodles and all the trimmings. For those wanting a bit of everything, the ‘Bigs’ menu items are perfect for sharing. Working lunch anyone? Popular dishes include Kinhboy’s special fried rice with Chinese sausage, pickled mustard, mustard seeds and shallot; and Angus shaking beef bò lúc lắc with sugar snap peas, pepper sauce and capsicum.

Set amongst the bustling Barangaroo streets with unparalleled water views, consider yourself transported to the busy Hanoi streets. All that’s missing is a drink in hand…have no fear, Sama Sama has you covered with a list of Asian-inspired signature cocktails including a pineapple old fashioned with Plantation Pineapple Rum, Pedro Ximenez, honey, old fashioned bitters and aromatic bitters.

Devour the Sama Sama X Kinhboy menu from Tuesday to Friday between 12-3 pm. Outside of these hours, Sama Sama will be offering its regular menu.
