Review: Cucina Porto, The Star

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 27 January 2021

A flashy new restaurant at The Star with a classy Italian menu.

Looking for a casual dining destination to score top-notch Italian eats? Look no further than Cucina Porto, the first new opening for The Star Sydney, with several new dining spots set to open their doors in the coming year.

As you’d expect, charming hospitality and simple, honest Italian food are what this dining room does best. Set opposite the Sydney Lyric Theatre, the venue will be an Italian home away from home with fuss-free Cucina and good times aplenty.

This is a great new spot to go for dinner or drinks before a night out at the Star or the Theatre. The sophisticated yet relaxed party atmosphere is inviting for anyone looking for good food or just a good time.

Get started with their aperitivo menu featuring oysters with a shallot + cabernet vinegar or gin + lemon granita ($5 each), classic Italian olives ($8), and all charcuterie goodness such as prosciutto, ham, or salami ($10 each) while the stone-baked bread ($7) and burrata with pistachio pesto($16) is a must.

While you’re deciding on your food, you can enjoy a range of delicious cocktails, with a particularly impressive selection of Negroni variations. We highly recommend the Sgroppino cocktail which is a mix of prosecco, vodka, and lemon sorbet combing to make an incredibly refreshing drink.

For mains, there is the usual debate between pizza, pasta, or protein, all very reasonably priced at $30 or less. The Schiaffoni pasta with slow-cooked beef, lamb ragu, and rosemary($27) and the succulent Porto pizza with octopus, prawn, and market fish ($28) are firm favourites.

Of course, you can never leave an Italian restaurant without trying the Tiramisu. This classic will never get old and Cucina Porto nailed it. So next time your popping into The Star for an event, save some time to add Cucina Porto to the agenda!
