This Freshwater landmark unveils the first phase of its high-anticipated refurbishment.
Northern Beaches locals will be familiar with the former Harbord Beach Hotel. For nearly a century, this pub has been an icon among locals and visitors alike. And this summer, the venue returns as Harbord Hotel with a brand new look and a series of new dining destinations.
The first stage of this spectacular refurbishment will be revealed to the public in December. New owners Glenn Piper and Lachlan Cottee are thrilled to share this new-look beachside haven with the local community. As part of the first phase of this historic redevelopment, Harbord Hotel will welcome an expansive main bar and courtyard as well as a new casual coastal dining destination, Balsa, on the hotel’s ground floor.
The new-look Harbord Hotel has been designed in collaboration with architects Alexander & Co, taking cues from Freshwater’s history and unique claim as the birthplace of surfboard riding in Australia. There’s a mural from local artist Ash Holmes that greet guests before you head into the sun-drenched courtyard for a relaxed evening drink. Plus, the exterior of the building is expected to offer a new sun-bleached identity with portions of the venue that have been covered up for decades will be exposed, revealing memories of bygone coastal flair.
We can’t wait to experience Harbord Hotel’s new restaurant, Balsa. At the helm of the kitchen Head Chef and Freshwater local Adam Rust (ex-12 Micron) has curated a menu of simple, natural flavours using salt, wood, and smoke to cook the best ingredients that he can find. Expect the freshest, finest seafood around along with a drinks menu pouring margaritas, coastal wines, and crisp Aussie beers, with a strong representation of non-alcoholic drops.
Plus, get ready for a summer of free events and entertainment at Harbord Hotel. There’s set to be a strong live music focus championing local Northern Beaches talent.
Harbord Hotel’s first stage of redevelopment is now open. The second phase is set to offer boutique accommodation and a cafe, with more details coming on. Stay up to date with the latest news on Harbord Hotel’s website.
