The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Lord Howe Island has just been named Lonely Planet’s fifth-best region to visit next year, and here’s why you need to book a trip.

Just a 2-hour flight from Sydney, you’ll find a tiny oasis of calm. It’s a destination that’s no stranger to good press. In fact, the island has proved so special it has earned itself a spot in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list. And if Lord Howe Island wasn’t attractive enough, the team at global travel authority Lonely Planet have given the island another glowing tick of approval.

In news just announced, Lord Howe Island has been ranked as the world’s fifth-best spot to travel to in 2020. In fact, this is the only Australian location featured in the Best in Travel lists from Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Regions, Countries and Cities to visit in 2020. And it’s not hard to see why the world is falling in love with this remote island. A hot spot for luxury seekers and nature lovers alike, Lord Howe Island is also setting the benchmark in sustainable tourism through its commitment to accommodating only 400 visitors at any one time. Plus, guests are encouraged to learn more about the local environment by participating in a range of ecological projects during their stay.
