After an electrical fire in September 2019, NOMAD is returning home to Foster Street.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Surry Hills, NOMAD Restaurant has been a favourite among Sydney foodies. It’s a destination for serious wining and dining, complete with an extensive cellar door filled with drops sourced locally and abroad. And their upscale Mediterranean-inspired menu has delighted diners for the better part of a decade, taking out the SMH Good Food Guide One Chef Hat consecutively since 2015.
But on 11th September this year, the restaurant was struck by tragedy. An electrical fire was sparked in the building, causing the evacuation of all staff and occupants from the multi-story warehouse space. Although no one was injured during the fire, the venue has been closed since the incident due to significant damage.
Since the fire, co-owners Al And Rebecca Yazbek have been working hard to rebuild the original space. Over the past few months, NOMAD has moved its operations Up The Road with the launch of its pop-up venue 85 Commonwealth Street. But now, NOMAD is returning home (permanently).
Owners Al and Rebecca Yazbek are pleased to announce NOMAD will be reopening on Tuesday, November 3rd at the restaurant’s original Foster Street space. The team has created a new-look venue with an expanded kitchen, double the seating and a new standalone deli.
The menu at NOMAD will feature a broader range of house-cured charcuterie, smoked ocean trout basturma, halloumi, date-glazed wagyu tongue and so much more. Plus, the NOMAD Deli will offer take-home goods such as cured meats, dips, wines and so much more.
The NOMAD dining room will now hero wood-fired dishes more than ever, with a custom-made fired oven returning along with a new charcoal grill (offering double the opportunities for the chefs to cook over fire).
NOMAD will be open for dinner daily and lunch Friday to Sunday, with seating capacity currently capped to 110 (will full capacity 200 once restrictions ease). Find out more here.
