Sydney, A Rooftop Drive-In Cinema Is Launching Soon In The Eastern Suburbs

Cool Sh*t, Film & Art, Play, Sydney / 15 May 2020

Sydneysiders can enjoy a (socially distant) film experience from your car at this new rooftop drive-in cinema.

Since launching in 2016, Mov’in Bed has been one of Sydney’s favourite outdoor cinema experiences. As the name would suggest, the event brings cinema lovers together with a unique outdoor film experience hosted on inflatable beds. Replicating the classic at-home film experience of watching movies in bed, Mov’in Bed has grown into a national film event attracting thousands of attendees over the past 4 seasons.

But in 2020, the team had to hit pause on their regular calendar of outdoor cinema events. But, they wouldn’t let a global pandemic rain on their parade. In fact, COVID-19 restrictions have led the team to relaunch their event as ‘Mov’in Car’, dubbed as ‘the first COVID-19 cinema experience in Sydney’.

Rekindling the old school practice of drive-in cinemas, Mov’in Car delivers a rooftop drive-in cinema experience to the heart of the Eastern Suburbs. Landing in Entertainment Quarter, the new venture will see sessions kick off from Thursday, May 28th to Sunday, August 30th 2020. Screenings will be held on Wednesdays (1 session per night at 6:30pm) and Thursdays to Sundays (with 2 sessions per night, one at 5:30pm and 8:30pm).

At this stage, we’re yet to hear about the highly anticipated film program. But we do known that punters will be able to receive contactless delivery of food and wine to your car. The cinema will be preparing pizzas as well as candy bar classics of popcorn and lollies. Plus, the licensed event will be serving delicious wines and beers to your car as well.

As far as retro and romantic date night ideas go, this is one of the most creative! To find out more about Mov’in Car’s debut season, visit their newly launched website here.
